Artificial Intelligence (AI) has great potential for journalism: it can facilitate editors in cleaning, organizing and interpreting data. In addition, AI can transcribe or summarize texts and contribute new angles to journalistic stories. Yet artificial intelligence is as yet used sparingly because of its many practical, social and ethical challenges. Many newsrooms have questions about how AI relates to journalistic values. They also struggle with knowledge in terms of technical possibilities and limitations as well as laws and regulations.
To map the possibilities and preconditions of AI in journalism, the RPO organizes in cooperation with Fontys Journalism (Lectoraat Ontwerpen aan de Journalistiek) the daylong program 'A New Code. AI Ethics in Journalism.'
